spring time activities
this year i've already power raked my lawn and cleaned up the clippings. let me tell you it was a very dirty and dusty job. i'm glad it's done and i think the lawn will be happier for it as well. i'm hoping this last batch of white moisture will give the grass what it has been missing and help to green it up.
i've decided that i'm going to dig out some more lawn this spring around my deck so that i can plant sweat peas, climbing bean vines, and clematis which will all grow onto my lattice and up the deck. i'm ideally going for privacy, even tho i think that the sun will eventually burn most of the plants except the clematis.
i'm starting the sweet peas and bean vine inside in a mini greenhouse. they've been planted since monday and are already sprouting. in a couple of days i'll be able to move the lid off slightly and then transfer the greenhouse to the sunny window, where hopefully the plants will continue their climb up.
i also bought a pack of tomato seeds and have started those indoors. i'm so looking forward to fresh tomatoes.
at the moment i'm also looking for lavender to plant in the gardens, not just for the smell but for pest eradication. apparently ants do not like lavender, nor do aphids. it would be nice to have a few plants around because we tend to get overwhelmed with both as the seasons progress.
the snow is still covering the lawns, but i imagine it will be mostly gone by monday...and hopefully by then, the grass will begin its transformation.
now that spring has relatively sprung, i can take on more outdoor projects.
